Stoke agree to sign West Brom captain

Stoke will sign Darren Fletcher from West Brom on a two-year deal when his current deal expires with the Baggies, reports The Daily Mail.

Fletcher, 33, is out of contract this summer and failed to agree fresh terms with Tony Pulis’ side to allow Stoke to come in and sign the experienced former Manchester United midfielder.

The Scotland international has been a stalwart in the West Brom side since joining from United in 2015 and his departure is a real blow for Pulis at the start of the transfer window.

Fletcher’s last few years at United were ruined by serious illness but the veteran midfielder overcame that to become a fixture in the West Brom side for two seasons.

In fact, Fletcher impressively started 75 of West Brom’s 76 Premier League matches over the last two seasons. No outfielder has started more in that time, which is an amazing achievement when you consider Fletcher’s age and what he has been forced to come through in recent years.
