Inter miss out on Conte, could announce Spalletti as boss tomorrow

Luciano Spalletti could be confirmed as Inter’s new manager as soon as tomorrow having missed out on top target Antonio Conte, Calcio Mercato confirm.

The former Roma boss, who guided the gialorossi to within four points of Serie A champions Juventus last season, has flown to China to speak with the club’s new owners and sign a contract.

Spalletti told Calcio Mercato reporter Pasquale Guarro this morning: “I am happy to be the new Inter coach. We’ve shaken hands, papers are not being signed yet. He continued: “I can’t talk too much because there will be a press conference tomorrow”.

Inter parted ways with Stefano Pioli just weeks before the season came to an end after a poor run of results, reportedly as an attempt to try to lure Chelsea boss Antonio Conte to next season’s project.

Having missed out on the former Juventus head coach, however, Spalletti will become the nerazzurri’s fifth manager in the space of a year. Since returning to Roma in January of last year the Italian won 50 of 75 matches in charge during his second spell at the Stadio Olimpico.
