Manchester City have confirmed Gabriel Jesus has suffered medial collateral ligament damage and will require more tests to discover the extent of the injury.
Jesus sustained the injury in the first half of City’s 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace on Sunday and is expected to face a long spell out on the sidelines.
Some reports have emerged suggesting the Brazil international could be out for as many as six weeks, which would rule the 20-year-old of City’s next 10 matches.
“Manchester City can confirm Gabriel Jesus suffered a medial collateral ligament injury during the 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace on Sunday,” a statement read on the club’s official website.
“He will undergo further examinations in the coming days to establish the extent of his lay-off.”
Jesus has been a revelation for City since joining from Palmeiras at the start of 2017 but has endured a somewhat difficult second season for Pep Guardiola’s side.
Despite notching 10 goals across all competitions this season, Jesus has not scored in his last 603 minutes of football (excluding penalty shoot-outs) and has managed just one assist in that period.
