Borussia Dortmund midfielder pens new deal

Borussia Dortmund have announced Shinji Kagawa has agreed terms to a new contract extension keeping him at the club until June 2020.

Kagawa, 28, has spent most of his professional career with the German giants across two stints at the club after spending two years in the Premier League with Manchester United between 2012 and 2014.

The Japan international is no longer a first-team regular for Dortmund but still proved last season he can provided a cutting edge in the final third when called upon and is delighted to extend his stay with the club.

“BVB is like a family,” he told the club’s official website. “I am proud that they never forgot about me, and that I belong here once again.

“BVB, with its unbelievable fans, has really grown very dear to me. I am very glad that I will remain a part of this incredible club in one of the best leagues in the world with the highest viewing figures.”

Kagawa only featured in 21 league games last season but still managed to provide six assists. In fact, since August 2011, only Marco Reus (34) and Henrikh Mkhitaryan (29) have registered more Bundesliga assists than Kagawa (26) for Dortmund despite the fact he was in England for two years during that period.
