There is a growing confidence that Ander Herrera will sign a new long-term Manchester United deal, claims the Manchester Evening News.
Herrera has entered the final six months of his existing Untied deal and is free to discuss a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs.
Former side Athletic Club have already confirmed they want to re-sign the 29-year-old but Herrera’s preference is to remain at Old Trafford.
Herrera joined United in the summer of 2014 but was never a first-team regular under Louis van Gaal or Jose Mourinho.
The former Spain international has, however, established himself as part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first-choice midfield trio.
Herrera has started five of Solskjaer’s six league matches in charge and scored one goal in that time.
Since joining United, Herrera has won at least 108 more tackles and interceptions combined in the Premier League than any other player at the club (529).
