Atletico Madrid confirm capture of AC Milan striker

Atletico Madrid have announced they have signed AC Milan striker Nikola Kalinic on a three-year deal running until 2021.

Kalinic has been heavily linked with a move to Atletico all summer and Diego Simeone’s side have finally got their man in a deal worth a reported €15m (£13.5m)

The 30-year-old is the seventh signing Atletico have made this summer and arrives to take Fernando Torres’ place in the team after the Spaniard departed for Japan in July.

Kalinic’s arrival will also pave the way for at least one of Luciano Vietto or Kevin Gameiro to leave Atletico this summer.

Kalinic was sent home from Croatia’s 2018 World Cup run to the final after refusing to come off the bench during the group phase and it remains to be seen how he will take a reserve role for Atletico.

Diego Costa and Antoine Griezmann are Simeone’s first choice strikers and Kalinic will have to settle for a bit-part role at the club.

Kalinic only joined Milan 12 months ago but failed to make the impact many were hoping for at the club, managing just six goals in 31 league appearances for the Serie A giants.
