Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini expects captain Vincent Kompany to be sidelined for 'a minimum of one month' with another calf problem.
Kompany, 28, has been struggling with reoccurring calf problems all season and could only last 6 minutes of their Champions League clash with Dynamo Kyiv before being limping off injured.
The Belgium international will undergo scans but he is certainly ruled out of the Manchester derby on Sunday and isn’t likely to be fit in time for either leg of the quarter-finals in the Champions League at the start of next month.
“Vincent has again a muscle injury in his calf, the same problem he has had before,” Pellegrini is quoted as saying by BBC Sport. “Vincent must be very strong mentally. It’s very difficult to accept but he has nothing else to do.”
The two-time Premier League champions have struggled at the back this season and looked incredibly vulnerable without their captain at the heart of their defence, which, unfortunately for City, has been too often.
In fact, City concede on average 0.5 goals per game in the league with Kompany in the starting XI compared to a daunting 1.5 goals per game without him from the off.
