Which Argentinian star topped the ratings in the Champions League?

Manchester United signed Angel di Maria as the player that was supposed to fire them to Premier League and European glory. However, after just 12 months at Old Trafford the former Real Madrid star was not even given the chance to showcase his talents on the continental scene after being sold to Paris Saint-German for £45m over the summer.

The Argentina international missed the first few weeks of the season with a hamstring injury, but has already shown United what they are missing after playing a direct hand in two goals (one goal + one assist) in his first three appearances in all competitions for his new side.

PSG’s encounter with Swedish side Malmo on Tuesday night was supposed to be a game that was based around Zlatan Ibrahimovic coming up against his first-ever professional football club. Instead, Di Maria stole the show.

The 27-year-old opened the scoring after just four minutes with a wonderfully bent effort just when it seemed the angle was against the Argentine to beat the Malmo keeper.

Added to his fine finish, Di Maria successfully completed at least five more dribbles than any other player on the pitch (7), as well as making at least two more key passes than everyone else (6).

United’s club-record signing also had the most shots on target (3) on his way to gaining a WhoScored rating of (9.62) – a rank that no player could better in the first set of matches in the Champions League group stage.
