Manchester United are ready to rival Everton for Southampton captain Jose Fonte, according to The Daily Record.
Jose Mourinho is keen to add an experienced central defender to his squad before the transfer window ends and has earmarked Fonte as a potential target.
Everton manager Ronald Koeman is also interested in reuniting with the Southampton captain at Goodison Park this summer and have already bid £9m for the 32-year-old.
Fonte was part of the Portugal squad that won the Euros earlier this summer, featuring in the team during the latter stages of the competition.
Only four players have completed more clearances in the last three Premier League campaigns than Fonte (722).
