Southampton target says his goodbyes as move edges closer
Wesley Hoedt has said goodbyes to his Lazio teammates as he edges closer to joining Southampton, reports Tuttomercato, via Football Italia.
Southampton have matched Hoedt’s €17m (£15.5m) valuation and a transfer is now expected to be a formality before the window closes at the end of the month.
The Netherlands international will reportedly fly to England to undergo his Southampton medical before agreeing personal terms with Mauricio Pellegrino’s side.
Many have billed Hoedt to be a direct replacement for Virgil Van Dijk, who handed in a transfer request earlier this month.

However, Southampton do not see it that way and want Hoedt to partner his fellow countrymen rather than replace their captain.
Of players that contested at least 50 aerial duels in Serie A last season, Hoedt had the best success rate (84.1%).
