Real Madrid dealt blow in pursuit of Chelsea goalkeeper Courtois

Real Madrid target Thibaut Courtois insists he will still be at Chelsea next season.

Courtois has been heavily linked with a move to Madrid all season after stalling on a new Chelsea deal.

The Belgium international will only have 12 months remaining on his existing contract in the summer and Madrid are expected to move for the goalkeeper.

Courtois has continually reiterated a desire to return to Spain to be closer to his children but now the 25-year-old says he will still be at Chelsea next season.

“I’m committed to Chelsea,” he told the London Evening Standard. “I have a contract until next year and I will be here. I will do my best for it.

“Obviously there is no extension signed but I don’t think now is the moment to do it, I think it is better to wait until the end of the season. All I can say is I’m committed to Chelsea and also committed for next year.

“I have no other thing to say. It’s easy when you have only one year remaining that other people might say something.

“I’m a bit annoyed by it because it’s a talking point and it’s a thing people want to dwell on. But I think the focus now should be on winning our league games to get a top four finish and back in the Champions League for next season as well as going through in the FA Cup.

“That’s the most important thing and is what we have to do as a group and for myself as well.”

Real Madrid dealt blow in pursuit of Chelsea goalkeeper Courtois

Courtois was panned by Spanish media following Chelsea’s 3-0 defeat to Barcelona in midweek after twice being nutmegged by Lionel Messi.

Only David de Gea (15) and Ederson (14) have kept more clean sheets than Courtois (13) in the Premier League this season.
