Arsenal are concerned Aaron Ramsey could be set for another lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering a calf strain that has ruled him out of Saturday’s clash with Chelsea, reports The Daily Mirror.
Ramsey, 26, has suffered with a series of reoccurring muscle injuries in the last few seasons that have restricted his involvement and prevented him from reaching his best form for prolonged periods.
The Wales international was forced off after 20 minutes of Arsenal’s shock 2-1 defeat at home to Watford and while he is almost certainly ruled out of their clash with Chelsea on Saturday Arsene Wenger’s side are concerned he could face a long-term spell out.
Arsenal are now waiting to find out the results from the scan Ramsey underwent on his calf but fear he may be unavailable for most of the next month which would be a huge blow for the Gunners with Granit Xhaka currently suspended, Santi Cazorla out injured and Mohamed Elneny away on AFCON duty.
The Gunners have matches against two of their top-4 rivals, a tricky FA Cup fifth round trip to Sutton United and the first leg of their Champions League encounter away to Bayern Munich to come in the next month.
Ramsey has only started six league games for Arsenal this season and is no longer a first choice option when everyone is fully fit, having made a further six appearances from the substitute bench. In fact, only Elneny (6.53) has garnered a lower WhoScored rating in the Premier League of players to have started at least five matches for Arsenal this season than Ramsey (6.58).
