Roma have opted against signing former Blackburn midfielder Jack Rodwell on a free transfer, claims Sky Sports.
The Serie A outfit have been exploring the free transfer market in a bid to ease their growing injury crisis in central midfield.
Rodwell emerged as a shock transfer target for Roma and the former Everton, Manchester City and Blackburn midfielder even trained with Paulo Fonseca's side.
The 28-year-old has been a free agent since being released by Blackburn at the end of last season following one year with the Championship outfit.
Rodwell underwent his Roma medical at the end of last week but Fonseca's side have decided against signing the injury-prone midfielder.
Lorenzo Pellegrini, Amadou Diawara and Bryan Cristante are all sidelined for Roma at the moment to leave Fonseca with few options to pick from in midfield.
Roma are now expected to wrap up a deal for Lichtenstein international Marcel Buchel, who they have also been considering for the last week.
Rodwell would hvae been the second English player to sign for Roma this season following Chris Smalling's loan move from Manchester United in the summer.
The former England international only made 16 league starts for Blackburn last season and garnered a WhoScored rating of just 6.43.
In fact, Rodwell was one of the top-15 lowest WhoScored rated players in the Championship (15+ starts) last season.
