United eye up Bale deal

Gareth Bale has emerged as Manchester United’s top transfer target, despite the poor relationship between the Premier League side and Real Madrid.

United have held a long standing interest in the Welshman since he broke into the Southampton first team as a teenager and had hoped to snare the attacker over the summer.

However, any move failed to materialise, yet United remain keen on securing the services of the Wales international, according to the Mirror.

The English outfit are now set to launch a 12-month charm offensive in a bid to sign Bale, with United also confident they can re-sign former United star Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Portuguese’s relationship with Madrid boss Rafa Benitez is said to be tense, though Bale remains United’s top target, with David De Gea possibly used as a makeweight in any possible deal, despite the Spaniard’s contract expiring next summer.

Bale has impressed for Madrid this season, with his WhoScored rating (8.65) the best of all players in La Liga.
