Sevilla not looking to sign Chelsea outcast

Sevilla manager Jorge Sampaoli has heaped praise on Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas but insists he is not looking to bring the Spaniard to the reigning Europa League champions.

Fabregas, 28, is widely expected to leave Chelsea in January after falling down the pecking order under Antonio Conte.

The Spain international has been heavily linked with a move to Italian giants AC Milan and Sampaoli has paved the way for the former Barcelona midfielder to make the move after ruling Sevilla out of the running.

“I know he’s [Fabregas] an important player, but I’m not thinking about him,” Sampaoli is quoted as saying by ESPN. “He’s very intelligent and it’s clear he’s a player any coach would love to have. But it hasn’t crossed my mind that he could be here.

“We’re linked with players day in, day out. We value the squad that we have here highly and I’m not thinking about any more than that."

Fabregas has been a key player for Chelsea since arriving from Barcelona in 2014 but the Spaniard has dropped below Nemanja Matic and N’Golo Kante in his new preferred 3-4-3 formation.

Despite only featuring in 87 minutes of league action this season, Fabregas has still registered more assists than any other player in the last three Premier League campaigns (26).
