Belgian attacker extends Everton stay

 

Kevin Mirallas has signed a new deal at Everton until 2020, the club has confirmed. 

 

The 29-year-old had been set to extend his stay at Goodison Park and on Friday evening, Everton announced that Mirallas had put pen to paper on a new contract. 

 

“The Belgium international put pen to paper on his new three-year deal ahead of this evening’s final Premier League game of the season at Goodison against Watford when the Blues hope to achieve a new Club record points haul at home in a Premier League campaign,” a statement read on the club’s official website. 

 

“The 29-year-old explained it was an easy decision to commit his future because he believes the Club is ready to challenge for silverware in the coming seasons under manager Ronald Koeman.” 

 

On signing his new deal, Mirallas said: “This contract is very important for me and my family. I am very happy here – this is the best club for me.  

 

“I’ve been here five years and it’s very important for me to win a trophy here. I’ve said before that my dream is to win at least one trophy with Everton and I firmly believe we are heading in the right direction.  

 

“We have an amazing manager, an amazing team, and amazing fans. 

 

“This is an exciting time for the Club. I hope we sign some top players to fight for the Champions League places next season. 

 

“There’s also a big project with the new stadium, which the Chairman and Farhad Moshiri have been pushing forward with – and all of that is very important for me.”

The Belgium international went on to say that to decision to continue working with manager Ronald Koeman was a major factor behind his decision to stay at Goodison Park, adding: “The manager was a very important part in my decision to sign a new contract because he believes in my qualities. 

 

“I have spoken with the manager and I know he wants more from me - more assists, more goals, more consistency. 

 

“I will work hard for that and hope to play even better next season. 

 

“I think I need to be more consistent in games. All my family and friends say, ‘You need to do more, you need to do more,’ and I will work hard to achieve that.”
