Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has hinted the reigning European champions could move for Monaco sensation Kylian Mbappe this summer after insisting Karim Benzema could play alongside the sought after teenager.
Mbappe, 18, has enjoyed a sensational breakthrough campaign for Ligue 1 league leaders Monaco and Leonardo Jardim’s side are now bracing themselves for a summer of huge interest in the striker.
Manchester United have already been credited with an interest in the teenager but they could face competition for his signature from Madrid, particularly after Perez said there would be no problem with Benzema and Mbappe starting alongside each other.
“A duo of Benzema and Mbappe? Everything is possible,” Perez told RMC, via The Daily Express. “But at this time of the season, I don’t want to talk about that. We don’t talk about players of other teams. Right now, all we are thinking about is how to win La Liga and the Champions League.
“Karim is a mix of [Zinedine] Zidane and Ronaldo. He is the best number nine in the world and the best French player. I am convinced that he will stay [at Madrid] and, while now we do not talk about [contract] renewals, if it was up to me, I would keep him here during his whole sporting life.”
Mbappe’s performances were even good enough to earn his first ever senior call-up to Didier Deschamps’ France squad and the teen will earn his debut across matches against Luxembourg and Spain during the international break.
The Monaco ace has scored at least twice the amount of goals as any other teenager in Europe’s top five leagues this season (12).
