Fellaini has been offered a pay rise, confirms Manchester United boss

Jose Mourinho has revealed Manchester United have already offered Maroaune Fellaini a pay rise and now it’s up to the midfielder to decide on his future.

Fellaini is out of contract at the end of the current campaign and has been heavily linked with moves to Paris Saint-Germain and Besiktas all season.

Mourinho confirmed after last weekend’s 2-1 win over Arsenal that he still hoped Fellaini would sign a new United deal, although the midfielder has since revealed the club may have left it too late.

Fellaini is reportedly holding out for a two-year deal and an increase on his current reported £80,000-a-week wages in order to renew with the Red Devils, but Mourinho has backed the club's approach to talks.

“He let his contract run until the end,” ESPN quote Mourinho as saying at his news conference on Thursday. “You cannot say that it was the club.

“If there were no offers, then we could say the club let it go until now. He had offers, And he had offers in a progressive way.

“Of course, the offer he has now on the table is a better offer than he had six months ago or eight months ago.

“It is a process and he is using the fact that he is in the end of his contract to let it go. Is it a decision good or bad, but it is his decision and we have to respect that.”

Fellaini has endured a nightmare season with injuries that have limited the Belgium international to just four Premier League starts and a further 11 appearances as a substitute.

Despite struggling for playing time, Fellaini has still weighed in with four league goals for Mourinho’s side. In fact, only Romelu Lukaku (10) and Anthony Martial (5) have scored more home league goals for United than Fellaini this season (4).
