Barcelona consider alternative options to Vietto

Barcelona will move for Benfica striker Jonas if they fail to seal a deal with Atletico Madrid for Luciano Vietto, claims Spanish paper AS.

The La Liga champions are looking to sign a fourth striker this summer in a bid to ease the burden on Neymar, Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.

Barcelona are reportedly close to completing a deal to sign Vietto from rivals Atletico but Jonas’ brother and agent has claimed the Spanish giants have made contact over a possible deal.

“Someone who said they were calling on behalf of Barcelona contacted me asking about Jonas,” AS quote the player’s brother and agent Tiago Goncalves is quoted as saying.

“We’re obviously flattered because it’s recognition of the great season he’s had. I want to make clear that Jonas is very happy at Benfica. A transfer would only be an option if both Benfica and Jonas are happy with it.”

Only Luis Suarez (40), Gonzalo Higuain (36) and Cristiano Ronaldo (35) scored more goals in Europe last season than Jonas (32).
