Liverpool and Everton prepared to battle for Torino centre-back

Merseyside rivals Liverpool and Everton are prepared to battle for Torino defender Bremer when the January transfer window opens, reports The Liverpool Echo.

The Reds have been rocked by the absence of Joe Gomez, who sustained a serious knee injury while on international duty this week.

Liverpool are already without Virgil van Dijk for the remainder of the season after he suffered a knee injury in their 2-2 Merseyside Derby draw last month.

Joel Matip has endured his fair share of spells on the sidelines, while Fabinho, who deputised for Van Dijk at the heart of the defence, has also sat out a chunk of the campaign with injury.

January presents the perfect chance for Jurgen Klopp to strengthen his defence and the defending Premier League champions are believed to be monitoring Bremer ahead of a possible move for the Brazilian in the New Year.

However, fierce rivals Everton are also considering a move for the centre-back as Carlo Ancelotti seeks to add defensive reinforcements.

The Toffees brought in Ben Godfrey on deadline day and may make a move for the Torino centre-back when the transfer window re-opens.
