Contract talks between Arsenal and Ramsey on brink of collapse

Arsenal have been served a huge blow in their attempts to secure Aaron Ramsey’s long-term future, claims The Sun.

Ramsey’s current deal is due to expire at the end of the season and the Gunners could be forced to sell in January if no new contract is agreed before then.

The Wales international is demanding to be made one of the best-paid players at the club after watching Arsenal hand out huge deals to the likes of Mesut Ozil, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at the start of the year.

Arsenal thought there were on the verge of agreeing a new £250,000-a-week deal with the 27-year-old but negotiations have taken a huge step backwards due to the ongoing uncertainty regarding chief executive Ivan Gazidis' future at the club.

AC Milan are desperate to prise Gazidis away from Arsenal and his departure would put the brakes on Arsenal’s hopes of keeping Ramsey at the club, with Manchester United and Chelsea monitoring the Welshman’s future at Arsenal.

New manager Unai Emery wants to make Ramsey a key player for the Gunners and there have been even reports about making the midfielder Arsenal captain. Ramsey has started three of Arsenal’s opening four league matches but is yet to score or register an assist.

Since the start of last season, Arsenal have a significantly better win ratio in the Premier League when Ramsey has started (58.3%) compared to when he has not featured from the off (38.9%).
