Manchester City close in on player dubbed the next Dani Alves
Defending Premier League champions Manchester City are closing in on the signing of Brazilian youngster Yan Couto from Coritiba, reports Sport via TEAMtalk.
City are expected to wrap up the teenager's capture before the close of the transfer window, with a medical scheduled for today.
Barcelona had courted Couto, who has been dubbed the new Dani Alves, but City look to have won the race to secure his services.
City are believed to have agreed a deal worth up to £12.5m, with £7.5m of that paid up front.
Couto is expected to remain in Brazil until he turns 18 in June and was one of the stars of the 2019 U17 World Cup, which Brazil won as they defeated Mexico 2-1 in the final.
City secured their spot in the Carabao Cup final at rivals Manchester United's expense on Wednesday night, despite a 1-0 home loss.
Pep Guardiola will hope to follow that up with all the spoils when City make the trip to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday as he aims to make it five wins from their last six away league matches.
Guardiola is already spoilt for choice at right-back, with the City boss able to call upon Kyle Walker and Joao Cancelo in defence.
