Everton failed in Cheryshev move

Everton made a loan move for Real Madrid winger Denis Cheryshev before the close of the transfer window, according to the Daily Star.

The Toffees missed out on a move for Andriy Yarmolenko, with manager Roberto Martinez turning his attention to Cheryshev as a result.

The Russian winger may not be a starter for Madrid, but Los Blancos supposedly turned down the opportunity for Cheryshev to go out on loan once more.

Everton completed the permanent move for Aaron Lennon on deadline day, but Martinez had hoped to bring the 24-year-old to Goodison Park on loan for the season.

Cheryshev spent last season on loan with Villarreal and impressed for the Yellow Submarines, with his 9 league assists ranking among the top 10 players and contributing to his WhoScored rating of 7.36.
