Paris Saint-Germain have announced Marco Verratti will have groin surgery in Doha on May 16 and will be sidelined for up to eight weeks.
Verratti, 23, has been plagued with a groin injury all year and has finally lost his battle to be fit for the European Championships in the summer after the decision was made to operate on his troublesome.
The Italian midfielder has been dubbed as the heartbeat of the current national team and his absence serves as a huge blow for Antonio Conte’s ambitions in the Euros next month, having already lost Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio to injury.
Only two players have a better pass success rate than Verratti in Ligue 1 and his ability in possession will be sorely missed by Italy in the summer.
