Liverpool not pursuing Bayern Munich's Thiago

Liverpool are not in the running to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago contrary to reports stating otherwise, claims ESPN.

Thiago has entered the final 12 months of his current Bayern deal and is available for a cut-price £30m fee this summer.

The 29-year-old is stalling on signing new terms with Bayern and is reportedly desperate to play in the Premier League.

Liverpool have been heavily linked with a move for the former Barcelona academy graduate but despite being a fan Jurgen Klopp is not currently considering a move for the midfielder.

The Premier League champions turned down the chance to sign Timo Werner from RB Leipzig last month due to the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

Werner wanted to join Liverpool but ended up signing for Chelsea after Klopp's side opted against pursing a deal.

Liverpool look set for a quiet summer transfer window and will only action a big money deal if a key member of the squad leaves.

However, Klopp is confident he can keep the core of Liverpool's squad together for next season and is also placing his faith in Curtis Jones and Naby Keita to step up.

Keita has endured a nightmare run with injuries since joining Liverpool but has recently shown the sort of form that convinced the Reds to sign him.

Added to the fact the Merseysiders already have a great wealth of midfield options, Thiago is also 29 and against the typical profile Liverpool look to sign.

Thiago has spent the last seven years at Bayern and developed into one of the best technical midfielders in Europe in that time.

Of players that attempted at least 25 dribbles in the Bundesliga this season, Thiago had the best success rate (85.5%).
