Arsenal are confident they will beat Chelsea to Luis Enrique if they firm up their interest in the former Barcelona head coach, claims The Daily Telegraph.
The Gunners are on the market for a new manager following Arsene Wenger’s surprise announcement he will step down at the end of the season.
A host of managers across Europe have already been heavily linked with the top job at Arsenal, but no clear favourite has emerged to succeed Wenger.
Arsenal are still assessing their options but are confident they could convince Enrique to replace Wenger rather than manage Chelsea.
The Blues are expected to part ways with Antonio Conte at the end of the season and are interested in the prospect of hiring Enrique.
The Spaniard has been out of work since leaving Barcelona at the end of last season but is now planning to resume his managerial career.
Enrique’s staggering £15m-a-year wage demands have forced Chelsea to re-consider their options and Arsenal believe they can take advantage.
However, it has since been revealed that Wenger’s replacement will only have a summer transfer budget of £50m before any departures.
Enrique finished his three years in charge of Barcelona with an impressive win ratio of 76.2%, winning every trophy available.
