Madrid’s top rated player out for two months

Real Madrid have been dealt a huge blow after the Germany national team revealed Toni Kroos will be sidelined for up to two months with a foot injury.

Kroos, 26, broke a metatarsal in his right foot during Madrid’s 3-0 win over newly promoted La Liga outfit Leganes on Sunday but played the full 90 minutes.

The Germany international has featured in all 11 of Madrid’s La Liga matches this season but now isn’t expected to return until 2017 after a scan result carried out by the national team on Tuesday revealed the full extent of the injury.

Kroos, who signed a contract extension with Madrid in October keeping him at the European champions until 2022, has also been ruled out, alongside Jerome Boateng, for Germany’s upcoming matches against San Marino and Italy.

The former Bayern Munich midfielder is currently Madrid’s highest rated player in La Liga (7.89) having played a direct hand in seven goals (one goal, six assists). Not only that, but the midfield maestro has attempted more passes than any other player in the league (818).
