Mourinho will listen to offers for disappointing Manchester United defender

Manchester United will listen to offers for underwhelming centre-back Chris Smalling this summer, according to ESPN.

The England international was hampered by injury once again this season and registered just 13 Premier League starts as United finished 6th in England’s top tier.

Smalling is hoping to overcome a knee injury that ruled him out of the final day of the campaign in time to be fit for Wednesday’s Europa League final.

The 27-year-old, however, has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford and is now fourth choice centre-back under Mourinho, with Eric Bailly, Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones, who is set to stay at the club, all preferred ahead of Smalling under manager Jose Mourinho.

Daley Blind will start at centre-back against former club Ajax on Wednesday evening, with Jones expected to partner the Dutchman at the heart of the defence, forcing Smalling to look on from the touchline once more.

Smalling has twice faced public criticism from Mourinho this season and with United gearing up to make a move for Burnley’s Micheal Keane, the former Fulham defender is set to be shown the Old Trafford exit.
