Manchester City appear to have won race to sign Alexis Sanchez
Manchester City look to have won the race to sign Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez, according to Chilean journalist Fernando Solabarrieta on Ferplei.
City had been battling it out with Bayern Munich, who on Sunday confirmed the signing of Serge Gnabry, and Chelsea in the race to sign the 28-year-old forward.
Arsenal had been reluctant to cash in on Alexis as they looked to prolong his stay at the Emirates Stadium.
The player has just 12 months left to run on his current deal in north London, as Arsenal strived to negotiate a new contract for the player, only to be left disappointed.
The Gunners had hoped to sell Alexis abroad should they cash in on the Chile international and while the player’s agent preferred a move to Bayern, the former Barcelona star favoured to stay in England.
He now looks set to link up with Pep Guardiola, who signed him for Barcelona, once again.
Alexis was a star performer for Arsenal last season, with his WhoScored rating (7.76) second only to Eden Hazard (7.81) in the Premier League.
alexis is a winner and will most likely leave to a team that has chances of winning cups
I honestly can't see Sanchez at City. Yes, he likes his mate Pep but that doesn't mean he'd go there. This is just more idle gossip to fill column inches. I'm hoping that he stays, it's not just about money for Alexis. It's about playing football and at City he won't get the game time that he gets at Arsenal. If the club show serious ambition in the transfer window, he could well stay.
@Haribo73 Wasn't Guardiola the one who couldn't decide if he wanted to start with Sanchez or Pedro? I'm not sure the relationship is as close as some people believe.
