Newcastle not interested in January move for Real Madrid legend
Newcastle are not interested in signing former Real Madrid ace Iker Casillas in January but Rafa Benitez does want to sign a new goalkeeper, reports the Newcastle Chronicle.
Benitez has divided first-team opportunities between Karl Darlow and Rob Elliot this season but the Newcastle boss is preparing to bring in a new senior goalkeeper in January.
With Freddie Woodman set to go on loan in the New Year, the Magpies will have to sign a new goalkeeper but Benitez’s side have distanced themselves from reports linking them with a move for Casillas.
The former Madrid goalkeeper is free to leave Porto in January as the Portuguese giants can no longer afford to match his contract but it’s unlikely he will end up at St. James’ Park.
Since the start of last season, Casillas has kept at least six more clean sheets than any other goalkeeper in the Portuguese Liga NOS (25).
