Townsend concedes he may have to leave Spurs

Andros Townsend has reportedly conceded he may have to leave Tottenham to safeguard his England place ahead of Euro 2016.

Townsend is yet to feature this season as he recovers from an ankle injury, but the arrivals of Clinton N’Jie and Heung-Min Son has put his first team place in jeopardy.

According to the Mirror, he was offered as part of the deal for West Brom’s Saido Berahino on deadline day, which failed to materialise.

Having failed to hold down a regular starting berth under Mauricio Pochettino, Townsend could be forced to move elsewhere in the new year in order to guarantee a place in the national team ahead of next summer’s European Championship.

The Baggies, Aston Villa and Leicester have all been credited with an interest in the 24-year-old, who has not made a competitive appearance for club or country since June.
