Tottenham star is wanted by eight European clubs, says advisor

Toby Alderweireld’s advisor has warned Tottenham to reward the defender with a bumper new deal or risk losing him to one of their European rivals.

The Belgium international still has three years remaining on his original contract but has established himself as one of the best defenders in England since joining Tottenham in 2015.

Alderweireld reportedly earns roughly half of some of the club’s top earners and would have no trouble maximising his earning power elsewhere, which his advisor, Stijn Francis has hinted could happen.

“When you look at Toby’s statistics, they are impressive,” Francis told The Sun. “Either he deserves an appropriate contract, or else he should be given a transfer.

“Seven or eight big European clubs are interested in signing him. There are not many central defenders around who can play like he can. But these clubs will have to negotiate with Tottenham’s chairman, Daniel Levy.”

Tottenham made Ajax defender Davinson Sanchez their club-record signing during the summer and the £35m-arrival will now be competing for places in defence with Alderweireld.

Since joining Tottenham from Atletico Madrid, Alderweireld has completed at least 125 more long balls than any other Premier League player (478).
