Wolves looking to steal march in race for West Brom striker

Following West Bromwich Albion’s failure to return to the top-flight, Black Country rivals Wolves are hoping to snare Baggies front man Salomon Rondon this summer, The Mirror reports.

The Venezuelan striker spent the 2018/19 season on loan at Newcastle and played a decisive role in the club’s survival, scooping the Magpies’ Player of the Year award.

The 29-year-old ended the campaign with 11 goals and seven assists, meaning that he had a direct hand in almost 43 per cent of his side’s total goal haul.

For that reason Rafa Benitez would no doubt love to keep Rondon in the North East but with his future still uncertain, along with the finances at St. James’ Park, Wolves are hoping to steal a march in the race for the forward’s services.

The South American is known to have a release fee of £16.5m, with both Everton and West Ham also believed to be interested in triggering clause. Beyond record signing Raul Jimenez, Wolves are short of options to lead the line and are keen to provide the Mexican with some competition.
