Crystal Palace want Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck to fire them to Premier League safety when the January transfer window opens, claims The Sun.
The Eagles have struggled for goals this season and Roy Hodgson has opted to play Wilfried Zaha and Andros Townsend up front rather than recognised strikers.
Palace are currently two points above the relegation zone in the Premier League but only three sides have scored fewer goals than Hodgson’s side (eight).
Hodgson wants to dip into the January transfer market and has identified Arsenal striker Welbeck as the ideal candidate to ease their goalscoring woes.
Welbeck is firmly behind Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette in the pecking order for places as Arsenal’s striker this season.
The England international has made eight appearances in the Premier League but has only started once in that time.
Arsenal manager Unai Emery has afforded Welbeck a run in the first-team in cup competitions and the 27-year-old has scored four goals across five appearances in the Europa League and EFL Cup.
Welbeck’s current Arsenal contract is due to expire at the end of the season and Palace are hopeful of striking a £10m cut-price deal with the Gunners at the start of next year.
With Aaron Ramsey set to leave for nothing next summer, Arsenal are reportedly open to offers for Welbeck in an attempt to prevent two players in their peak years departing on free transfers.
Since moving from Manchester United to Arsenal in the summer of 2014, Welbeck has only scored 16 goals in 88 Premier League appearances.
