Kevin Strootman has denied suggestions he wanted to leave Roma in the past and insists there is more to come from his performances this season.
The Netherlands international has endured a nightmare with injuries in the past that have taken the best part of two years away from his career, but Strootman looks to have put those behind him.
Strootman was a mainstay in the Roma first team last season and was even rewarded with a new long-term deal at the end of May and now he is looking to kick on this season.
“Thought about leaving Roma? The market has just closed… Two months ago, I signed on for five years, I’ve never thought about leaving Roma,” Football Italia quote Strootman as saying during Roma’s pre-match press conference for their Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid.
“Stronger or weaker than last season? It’s hard to say, we’ve only played two games. Some important players left, but others came in.”
“It can be answered in a few months. We have so much confidence right now, but we have to show it on the pitch.”
Since the start of last season, Strootman has registered at least four more through balls than any other player in Serie A (14).
