United midfielder offered new one-year deal

Manchester United have handed Michael Carrick a new one-year deal, according to The Guardian.

Carrick, 34, has entered the final few weeks of his current deal at United and there had been a cloud of uncertainty around his future after there had been no talks to extend his stay during Louis van Gaal’s time as a manager.

The England international, however, has been given assurances by new manager Jose Mourinho and has already been offered a deal to extend his stay by a further 12 months, which would prolong his United career into its 11th season.

Carrick struggled with form and fitness this season and was admitted from Roy Hodgson’s plans for the European Championships next month. In fact, he failed to register a league goal or an assist for the first time in five years.
