Gerrard rules out Liverpool return

LA Galaxy midfielder Steven Gerrard has ruled out a loan move back to Liverpool.

Gerrard, 35, has been heavily linked with a sensational return to Anfield in the last week after failing to settle with life in the United States.

The former Liverpool captain, who only joined LA Galaxy at the end of last season, was in the stands to watch the Reds fall to a 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace before the international break but has ruled out the chance of him pulling on the kit once more.

“I’ve retired from the national team so I don’t have to go and prove myself in Europe,” Gerrard told Eurosport International.

“I need to get some rest because I’ve got a very long season ahead next year, so it’s very important I came back strong, rested and ready to go again.”

Gerrard’s influence on MLS was extremely underwhelming last season and he has already admitted his next campaign could be his last. During his first season in Los Angeles, only Robbie Keane (3) averaged more shots on goal per game than the former England captain (2.3).
