Barcelona’s move to re-sign forward off the table

Barcelona have ended their pursuit of Nolito after Celta Vigo rejected all their proposals, according to Mundo Deportivo.

Nolito, 29, has been heavily linked with a return to the Camp Nou since the start of the season and Barcelona had been expected to sign him this month.

The reigning European champions are reportedly unwilling to match Nolito’s £14m release clause due to financial restrictions and their attempts to get the Spain international on loan until the end of the season before making the deal permeant was batted away.

Any move for second choice Denis Suarez would also appear unlikely to happen, with Villarreal refusing to budge unless they can take Denis Cheryshev on loan until the end of the season from Real Madrid.

Nolito has been sidelined for Celta since the start of December with a hamstring injury, which has prevented the winger from building on his extraordinary start to the campaign.

Barcelona’s move to re-sign forward off the table

The Spaniard is by far and away Celta’s best player, as shown by the difference in WhoScored rating’s between the Celta players, and he has also been performing in the top echelon across Europe’s top five leagues this season.

In fact, only Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez (8) has been named the WhoScorde man of the match on more occasions than Nolito (7) this season.
