Barcelona identify Tottenham defender as summer target

Tottenham right-back Kyle Walker has emerged as a potential target for Barcelona in the summer as they look to find a long-term replacement for Dani Alves, according to the London Evening Standard.

Walker, 26, has established himself as one of the best full backs in the Premier League this season and is now one of Tottenham’s most important players after making huge strides in his development under Mauricio Pochettino.

The 26-year-old only signed a new five-year deal with Tottenham in September but a potential move to Barcelona may only come around once in your career and a transfer could be hard to refuse.

Barcelona failed to replace Dani Alves last summer and have instead opted to rotate between Sergi Roberto and Aleix Vidal, although the latter is now ruled out for the rest of the season.

Luis Enrique’s side will reportedly exploit a loophole in Spain’s transfer rules in order to sign Deportivo La Coruna defender Juanfran, who is on loan from Watford, to bolster their options until the end of the season but Walker is currently on their shortlist for the summer.

No defender has registered more assists in the Premier League this season than Walker (5).
