Arsenal and Tottenham miss out on PSG star to Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund have announced the signing of right-back Thomas Meunier on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain via Twitter.

The Belgian's contract with the Ligue 1 champions expires at the end of this month and he has agreed terms on a four-year deal with the Bundesliga club, taking the contract up until 2024.

The 28-year old has been among the most in-demand free transfers ahead of the summer window opening, with a string of Premier League clubs including Tottenham, Arsenal and Manchester United all credited with an interest.

The Belgian international has found playing time hard to come by in France this season and indeed failed to make the right-back berth his own since signing from Club Brugge in 2016.

His 14 league starts was in keeping with his usual playing time at PSG, never having started 20 Ligue 1 matches in a single season since his arrival.

Meunier's rating has in fact dropped year-on-year in the in four seasons at the club, from an impressive 7.39 in his debut campaign to a far more modest 6.95 in the most recent campaign in France, which was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

That said, he is a right-back renowned for his attacking quality, particularly with the Belgium national team, and he will likely serve as a replacement to loan star Achraf Hakimi, who is due to return to Real Madrid after two seasons with Dortmund this summer.
