The agent of Aleksandar Mitrovic has rejected suggestions the Newcastle United striker will join Napoli in the January transfer window.
Mitrovic, 22, has emerged as a shock target for Napoli as they look to strengthen their offensive options following the long-term loss of summer signing Arkadiusz Milik.
The Serbia international has spent the last two seasons with Newcastle after joining from Belgian giants Anderlecht in a deal worth £13m and his agent, Nenad Jestrovic, insists he will remain at the Championship outfit until the end of the season.
“It is very unlikely at the moment,” he told CalcioNapoli24, via Football Italia. They only certainty right now is that he will end the season at Newcastle United.
“Absolutely not,” Jestrovic responded to suggestions Napoli have been in contact. “In the past there was some contact, but for now it’s out of the question. He will spend another six months in England, then we’ll decide what to do with his future.”
Mitrovic, who has lived up to the billing as a temperamental character since moving to England, has dropped down the pecking order this season under Rafa Benitez, as the Magpies eye an immediate return to the Premier League.
Despite that, Mitrovic has still provided when called upon. In three starts in the Championship this season, the striker has scored three goals and registered two assists, playing a direct hand in league goal every 50 minutes.
