The agent of Jorginho has confirmed Manchester City have tabled a bid for the Napoli midfielder.
Pep Guardiola wants to sign a long-term replacement for Fernandinho this summer and has earmarked Jorginho as his top transfer target.
City were expected to sign Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred in January but have cooled their interest since then.
Jorginho’s agent, Joao Santos, has since confirmed reports that City have bid for Napoli and conceded it would be hard to reject the Premier League champions.
“I know an offer to Napoli has arrived from Manchester City,” he told Tuttomercatoweb, via AS.
“We’re waiting for a response. I don’t think they have rejected offers. If Napoli find an agreement with City, we will assess everything.
“Obviously, Manchester City would be very welcome, an opportunity not to be turned down. The coach is one of the best in Europe.”
Napoli are hopeful of commanding in the region of £50m for the Italy international, although it’s unclear whether City’s offer is worth that much.
The 26-year-old has developed into one of the best central midfielders in Europe in the last two years and his arrival would enhance City’s options next term.
In fact, Jorginho averaged more passes per game than any other player in Europe’s top five leagues this season (96.9).
