Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Rudi Voller has confirmed Serie A giants Napoli want to sign Bernd Leno this summer but has ruled out the sale of their star goalkeeper.
Napoli are in the market for a new goalkeeper as they look to find a long-term replacement for Pepe Reina and reports had emerged suggesting Maurizio Sarri’s side wanted to sign 25-year-old Leno.
The Germany international has spent the last six years with Leverkusen after moving from German rivals Stuttgart in 2011 and Voller is adamant their No.1 goalkeeper will not be the second player leaving for Italy this summer in the wake of Hakan Calhanoglu’s move to AC Milan.
“It’s true that Napoli want Leno, but nothing will come of it,” Voller told German outlet Express, via Football Italia.
“We have already pocketed €40m from this transfer session, so Bernd will 100 per cent be staying.”
In the last two Bundesliga campaigns no player has committed more errors that have directly led to an opposition goal than Leno (7).
