Stoke have announced Paul Lambert as their new manager on a two-and-a-half-year deal.
The Potters sacked Mark Hughes over a week ago and have been linked with a number of managers since then.
Quique Sanches Flores and Martin O’Neil both turned down the chance to succeed Hughes and they have now turned to former Aston Villa manager Lambert.
“Paul greatly impressed us with his knowledge of our squad and had a clear plan of how he would improve our results,” Stoke chairman Peter Coates told the club’s official website.
“He’s a man who backed himself as a player, none more so than when he turned down contract offers in Scotland to go on trial in the German Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund, and it’s obvious he adopts the same approach as a manager.”
Lambert has been out of work since being sacked as Wolves manager at the end of last season and returns to Premier League management for the first time since February 2015.
Stoke travel to Manchester United on Monday night but Lambert will not officially take charge until Tuesday.
Lambert has only won two of his last seven matches as manager, losing four in the process.
