Liverpool target Keita set for crunch talks with RB Leipzig

Liverpool will find out more about whether they have a realistic chance of signing top transfer target Naby Keita with the midfielder set for talks with RB Leipzig about his future, reports the Liverpool Echo.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are prepared to break their club-transfer record for the second time this summer to bring Keita to Anfield and the Guinea international is reportedly keen to make the switch.

Leipzig have previously ruled out the departure of their star names as they gear up for Champions League football next season and have already told suitors they would have to pay £70m to prize Keita away from the club this summer.

It remains to be seen whether the Bundesliga outfit would lower their valuation if Keita tells the club he wants to join Liverpool during their showdown talks.

Keita has a £48m release clause in his current deal that will become active next summer but Klopp isn’t prepared to wait and wants to sign the 22-year-old midfielder this summer to help transform the club into serious title contenders.

The Leipzig No.8 was one of the best players in the Bundesliga last season after playing a direct hand in 15 goals (eight goals, seven assists) from his box-to-box midfield role. Not only that, but he also won possession in the midfield third more times than any other player in the German top-flight last term (180).
