Manchester City avoid European ban following successful appeal

Manchester City have avoided a ban on all European football after their suspension was overturned upon appeal by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

City were deemed to have contravened UEFA's Club Licensing and Financial Fair Play Regulations and, as a result, were banned from all European action for two seasons, effective next season, and fined €30m.

However, upon appeal, the decision taken back in February has been set aside and it replaced with a €10m fine.

"Whilst Manchester City and its legal advisors are yet to review the full ruling by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), the Club welcomes the implications of today’s ruling as a validation of the Club’s position and the body of evidence that it was able to present," City said in a club statement on their official website.

"The Club wishes to thank the panel members for their diligence and the due process that they administered."

City's Champions League campaign resumes next month with their second leg meeting with Real Madrid.

The Premier League powerhouse won the first leg in Spain 2-1 and hold the upper hand in their quest for continental glory.
