Juventus close in on Manchester United outcast

Juventus expect to sign out-of-favour Manchester United for defender Matteo Darmian this summer, claims Corriere dello Sport.

Darmian has failed to make any impression at United since joining from Torino in 2015 and has fallen further down the pecking order under Jose Mourinho in the last 19 months.

The Italy international was heavily linked with a move to Napoli and Juventus in January but the player’s agent revealed Mourinho blocked any potential move away during the winter transfer market.

Juventus have made signing a replacement for Stephan Lichtsteiner one of their top priorities for the summer, as the Switzerland international’s current deal is due to expire at the end of the season.

Darmian, who can play on either side of defence, has no future at Old Trafford and looks destined to return to Italy, with Juventus expected to beat their rivals to his signature.

Under Mourinho, United have a far superior win ratio in the Premier League when Darmian has not started (58.3%) compared to when he has featured from the off (41.2%).
