Manchester United have announced Sam Johnstone has joined Championship outfit Aston Villa on loan until the end of the season.
Johnstone, 23, has never made a first-team appearance for United after progressing through the youth academy and has endured eight different loan spells since 2011.
Villa have been keen to sign a new goalkeeper since Steve Bruce took control of the team following Pierluigi Gollini’s underwhelming start to the life at the Championship outfit.
United have also announced they have recalled Joel Pereira from his loan spell with Portuguese outfit Belenenses to provide cover for David De Gea and Sergio Romero.
Of goalkeepers to have made at least 20 appearances in the last four Championship campaigns, only two have a higher WhoScored rating than Johnstone in that time (6.97).
