Emerson Palmieri is on his way to Chelsea to finalise a permanent move from Roma, reports the London Evening Standard.
Antonio Conte’s side agreed an initial £17.5m deal for the Brazilian left-back earlier this month but were waiting to see whether they could broker Edin Dzeko’s arrival as part of a double swoop.
However, Chelsea have now pulled the plug on a deal for Dzeko after failing to make a breakthrough in talks over the weekend and are now putting the finishing touches on Emerson’s arrival.
Chelsea, who have also agreed to pay Roma a further £5.25m in add-ons, will hand Emerson a four-and-a-half-year deal worth around £42,000-a-week once he has passed his medical on Tuesday.
Conte has been desperate to sign a new left wing-back to provide competition with Marcos Alonso and moved for Emerson after a deal for Juventus star Alex Sandro proved too frustrating.
A serious knee injury suffered at the end of last season has limited Emerson to just 16 minutes of league action this season, but Chelsea have looked beyond that and into the future.
