Eibar have confirmed they have opted against paying Atletico Madrid €150,000 to allow star striker Borja Baston to play against his parent club this weekend.
Baston, 23, has been in sensational form for Eibar this season after being sent their on loan by Diego Simeone’s side at the start of the season.
Eibar has lost both of their last two league matches coming into their weekend’s clash with Atletico and need to get back to winning ways in order to keep tabs with the teams looking for Europa League football.
Baston could only feature for Eibar if they agreed to pay a penalty fee, which they have now confirmed they will not be doing. This would seemingly reduce their chances of causing an upset against the La Liga giants.
In fact, only four players have scored more league goals than Baston in La Liga this season (15). Furthermore, having also registered two assists, Baston has contributed to just less than half of Eibar’s league goals this season (48.6%).
